2022 Municipal Election
The 2022 municipal election voting period was held October 15 to October 24, 2022. For information on the 2022 Newmarket Municipal Election, including the results, visit Newmarket Votes.
If an eligible elector believes on reasonable grounds that a candidate has contravened the Municipal Elections Act, with respect to municipal campaign finances, they may apply to have an audit of the candidate's campaign finances. The Compliance Audit Committee reviews such applications and decides to grant or reject an audit. 2016 Ward 5 By-Election
On June 27, 2016 Ward 5 Councillor Joe Sponga publicly resigned his seat on Council. Section 263 (1) of the Municipal Act requires that a vacancy on Council be filled either by appointment or by by-election. On July 25, 2016 Council adopted a By-law to require a By-Election in Ward 5.
On October 17, 2016 Bob Kwapis was elected as the Councillor for Ward 5.
2014 Municipal Election
The 2014 Municipal Election was held on Monday, October 27, 2014 for the following offices:
- Mayor
- Regional Councillor
- Local Councillor (representing each of the seven wards)
- Trustee, York Region District School Board
- Trustee, York Catholic District School Board
- Trustee, Conseil scolaire Viamonde (filed with the Clerk of the Town of Markham)
