Art Gallery Docent Volunteer
Looking for enthusiastic individuals who would like to join our team. Docents are part of a creative team of community members that facilitate meaningful conversations about art with the Newmarket community and beyond through interactive tours and thought-provoking storytelling. Docents collaborate in a team environment to explore artistic practice and arts education, building public speaking skills that elevate the overall visitor experience and connect people with art.
- Conducting informative and engaging tours of exhibitions for adults and community groups;
- Maintaining a safe and inclusive environment;
- Greeting visitors and providing on-site information about exhibitions and programs;
- Participating in training and professional development meetings; and
- Assisting with other special programs and projects as personal time permits.
Time requirements:
Docents volunteer for tours and programs that take place on weekdays,
evenings and weekends. Docents attend a monthly two-hour training session/meeting on Friday
afternoons (2:30–4:30 pm) from September to March (excluding holidays). In addition to
training, and depending on scheduling, docents spend approximately 4–12 hours delivering and
supporting Town programs monthly.
Qualifications:
We welcome all members of the community who are interested in and want to
learn more about visual arts, creativity, education and public speaking. Docents must be at least
