To honour both National Indigenous History Month and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in September, the Town’s annual temporary installation of painted feathers will return to the bridge along the Tom Taylor Trail near the Municipal Offices. In many Indigenous cultures, feathers hold deep significance and can represent honour, strength, wisdom, trust, and connection.
As visitors cross the bridge, the orange feathers encourage reflection on the harmful legacy of residential schools, honour the children who never returned home, recognize Survivors and their families, and acknowledge the ongoing impacts of intergenerational trauma experienced by Indigenous communities. The installation serves as both a space for reflection and a reminder of our shared responsibility to continue learning, listening, and advancing reconciliation.
