The sustainably designed Haskett Park Breathing Space was developed to introduce much needed recreational and green space into the busy Davis Drive corridor. It offers residents, visitors, and employees a place to pause, recharge, and enjoy a quieter urban landscaped area.
The space also strengthens connectivity by providing an accessible, multi-use link between Haskett Park on Queen Street and the Davis Drive corridor.
Newmarket thanks the Newmarket Church of Christ for its generous land donation to the Town of Newmarket, which made the creation of this public space possible.
Background
The Haskett Park Breathing Space project features a plaza along Davis Drive and a fully accessible, illuminated multi-use asphalt trail designed for walking, cycling, and other active modes of transportation. The trail enhances connectivity by linking Davis Drive to the pedestrian refuge island on Queen Street, Haskett Park, and the broader active transportation network beyond.
The concept of Breathing Spaces was introduced through the Urban Centres Secondary Plan to provide additional green spaces and opportunities for passive recreation as intensification continues and new high-rise residential and commercial developments emerge along the Davis Drive and Yonge Street corridors.
