York Region has issued a Cold Weather Alert for November 28 and 29.

During extreme cold weather, the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex and the Magna Centre will be open as a temporary warming centre during its regular hours of operation.

  • Ray Twinney Recreation Complex (100 Eagle Street West): Monday to Sunday from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Magna Centre (800 Mulock Drive): 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Anyone experiencing homelessness in York Region who is looking for shelter during a Cold Weather Alert should call the York Region Emergency Housing Central Intake Line at 1-877-464-9675 ext. 76140. You can also contact one of the seasonal shelter providers listed on york.ca/emergencyhousing

Tips on Staying Warm

  • Limit your exposure to extreme cold weather
  • If it's too cold outside, consider staying indoors
  • Make sure your head, face, ears, neck, hands and feet are well protected
