The Town of Newmarket wants to make celebrating this holiday season a little easier for the community! Beginning December 21, 2024, the Town will be introducing a temporary holiday on-street parking exemption, in effect until Thursday, January 2, 2025. During this period, Municipal Enforcement Officers will not issue tickets for vehicles parked on the street for over three consecutive hours or between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.
"With many residents hosting celebrations or having family returning home for the holiday season, we wanted to make this special time even better for our residents and visitors through this holiday parking exemption program," says Mayor John Taylor. "Mayor and Council hope this program will make this joyous season more enjoyable and allow you to focus on what truly matters-spending time with loved ones."
The temporary holiday parking exemption program does not apply during snow events. During snowfall or winter events, please be mindful and remove vehicles parked on the street so they do not interfere with snow plowing operations and to ensure snow plows can operate safely.
Other parking regulations will continue to be enforced such as:
- Parking within two feet (0.6 metres) of a driveway or laneway
- Parking within 10 feet (3 metres) of a fire hydrant
- Facing the wrong direction (on any street, including crescents and courts)
- Parking on any Boulevard in a manner that causes obstruction to a Sidewalk or pedestrian walkway
- Parking in a space designated for disabled persons without displaying a valid accessible person's permit
- Parking on private property without the consent of the owner or occupant of the property
- Parking in prohibited or "No Parking" areas as signed
Residents are also reminded to keep the area around fire hydrants clear and avoid shoveling snow onto the street. Regular winter and parking restrictions will resume on Friday, January 3, 2025, and remain in effect until Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
