Residents who wish to dispose of large metal items, appliances and bulky (large) items for curbside collection are required to purchase large item tags.
COVID-19 Update on Large Item Collection
Due to COVID-19, all facilities and buildings remain closed until further notice. Large item tags are still available for purchase and can be purchased by contacting Customer Service at 905-953-5303 or info@newmarket.ca. If you are sending us an email, please include your phone number. Our Customer Service Centre will be in touch with you regarding payment and delivery. Please do not email your payment information. The Town will send you your large item tag by mail.
Bulky (Large) Items
Large, non-metal items such as furniture, mattresses, box springs, plastic lawn furniture and other bulky items can be placed at the curb for pick-up on your scheduled garbage collection day provided each item has been affixed with a large item tag.
For safety reasons, bulky items that contain glass (e.g. table tops, curio cabinets, etc.) must have the glass removed as this material is not accepted in the curbside collection program. Large mirrors are also not accepted. Large mirrors and large amounts of glass can be taken to select York Region Waste Depots for disposal (fees apply).
Metal Items and Appliances
Large metal items such as appliances, barbecues (no propane tanks), furnaces, hot water heaters, bicycles and other large metal items require a large item tag and special curbside collection.
To arrange for curbside collection, residents must first purchase a large item tag and then call our waste collection contractor, GFL (Green for Life) at 1-866-421-5625. If a special collection has not been booked, metal items will not be collected.
For safety reasons, please remove doors from fridges, freezers, dishwashers and ovens.
