The Newmarket Seniors' Meeting Place remains closed to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic. Facility access is suspended and in-person programming remains on hold. We continue to offer virtual programs and events to to Adults 55+. Navigate through each tab below for more information on virtual programming, virtual wellness programming and virtual senior events.

New! Free Seniors 55+ activity kit is now available for March 

Reserve your free March Seniors 55+ Activity Kit at (click on Programs, then Adults 55+ and then Senior Activity Kit).

Pick-up your kit on March 2 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Municipal Offices (395 Mulock Drive). Each kit will contain a variety of activities, puzzles, games and creative things to do. These activities will challenge your mind and put a smile on your face. The deadline to register for a kit is on Sunday, February 28, 2021 and there is a limit of one kit per household. If transportation to the Municipal Offices for pick-up is an issue, please let us know by email or by calling 905-953-5300.

Kits will also be available for April as well. Check back this webpage for more information on the April Seniors Activity Kit release date.

Dorothy Mazeau is a long-time community advocate, retired architect and practising Realtor based in Ontario.  As a Realtor specializing in working with older adults, she realizes that there is a need for a wider range of living options for her clients, especially those who are looking for an alternative to currently available solutions. Drawing on her own experience of living in shared homes for more than 20 years, Dorothy founded Golden HomeSharing Connections and its online database Golden Girls Canada as a way to help others learn about the benefits of this way of life and find compatible home-mates. Dorothy will provide an informative presentation, followed by a questions and answer period.

We are excited to announce another new venture, hosted through the Newmarket Seniors' Meeting Place. From March through to April, we will have monthly Seniors Activity Kits available. Online Fitness & Wellness Program Descriptions

Fit & 55+
Enjoy an hour of exercise that includes aerobic activities designed to tone and stretch your muscles, increase your energy and promote a healthy lifestyle.  Movements are done standing with a minimum of 20min of cardio (low or high intensity easy to follow steps). There is a strength training component using weights or household items (water bottles or cans of equal weight), followed by cool down and stretch.

Required: Towel. Water

Zumba Gold
This fitness class is all about FUN! It offers active older adults a chance to experience the rhythms of Merengue, Salsa, Cha Cha, Cumbia, Belly Dance, Flamenco, Tango, and Rock & Roll, while getting fit and having the time of their life! This program is designed so everyone can do it!
Required: Towel. Water


Zumba Toning
Enjoy the same great workout with emphasis on toning your muscles.
Required: Towel. Water, 1 or 2 pound weights


Hatha Yoga
Suitable for all levels, participants will work at their own personal limits to improve flexibility, muscle tone, balance, and circulation.  Breathing and relaxation techniques are employed to show participants how to conserve energy and reduce stress. 

Required: Water, Yoga mat, and comfortable clothing are required. A yoga strap may be used occasionally (a men's tie, long towel or rope are also suitable if you do not have a yoga strap).


Yoga Seated
A gentle introduction to Yoga for anyone needing extra support. The class focuses on very simple, gentle stretching and strengthening of the body while the student is seated or standing by a chair for support. Breathing, relaxation and visualizations are integrated into every class.
Required: Water, Chair


Explore the fundamentals of Pilates movements to develop core strength, align the spine and create better posture resulting in less aches and pains.  Using a different household item each week (ie broom, chair, 2 books, towel) to add fun and variety.
Required: Water, Mat (or use your carpet)


Tai Chi - Beginner

Basic elements of Tai Chi including breathing, relaxation, balance, alignment, coordination, concentration and cultivation of energy will be practiced by all students through either single movements (chi Kong) or a sequence of movements (form) in different levels. Beginners will learn a short 8 form which will prepare them for performing a longer form.

Tai Chi - Advanced
Advanced students will practice 24 and 42 yang style along with a short sword form as 16.
Required: Water

Tai Chi - Seated
This class is recommended for people who do not feel comfortable standing for very long or have mobility issues or concerns with their lower body, but at the same time they want to improve their general health and keep themselves physically more active. It is also useful for people who are in a recovery stage of an illness or an accident which has affected their normal mobility.
Required: Water, Chair

Osteoporosis Exercise
In collaboration with The Arthritis Program (TAP) at Southlake Regional Health Centre, we are pleased to provide this therapeutic exercise program for people with a diagnosis of osteoporosis or osteopenia. A physician's referral is recommended to indicate that the participant is able to exercise. This hour-long fitness class focuses on stretching and posture, arm and leg strengthening, exercises as well as balance and co-ordination skills.
Required: Water, Chair, dumbbells and a resistance band

Strong Bones & Balance
This class focuses a lot on posture, balance, strengthening the back muscles and lower body to improve balance.  By improving your balance you can prevent falls and continue to enjoy your activities of daily living!  Using body weight and weights or water bottles/cans of equal weight. Feel stronger and walk TALLER.
Required: Towel, Chair, Water, light weights or cans of equal weight.

CFQ Qigong is a gentle set of movements that reduce physical and mental stress and restores health and vitality to the body. CFQ Qigong is easily learned in a short period of time and is suitable for people who are unable to do vigorous physical exercise. This introduction will reveal the seven secrets of Qigong healing.          
Required: Water, Chair

Gentle Fitness
For those just starting out, returning to fitness from an injury/illness, or just looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle, this program is ideal for you. This class will focus on maintaining or increasing your range of motion, focusing on your shoulders and knees, but including all joints in the body! The goal is to keep your body moving well throughout your activities of daily living. Movements are done sitting or standing, with or without the support of a chair.
Required: Chair, water, bands (or belt / towel / yoga strap), weights (or cans / water bottles)


Gentle Stretch
Stretching is an important part of a person's flexibility and will help participants remain active and independent. In this stretching class, learn how to safely increase range of motion and relieve tension. A variety of stretches will be offered for the whole body some standing, sitting on a chair or on a mat.
Required: A mat, water, and comfortable clothing.

How to Participate in Online Programs
  1. Download zoom (free), through Once you are on the site, there are tutorials to help you understand what to do. Please email for assistance.
  2. Using the schedule above, decide which classes you want to join.
  3. Once you know what class(es) you want, register online at You can register for the entire 7-week session before it begins, or each class individually. Be sure to use the correct registration code. All registrations must be done online.

  4. Once registered, your confirmation will provide you with a link to the classes you have chosen. If you have registered in multiple programs, be sure you use the link in that program's confirmation, in order to access the correct program.
  5. Five minutes before the class starts, click on the link within that email, or use the ID code to enter the class waiting room. Your instructor will enter the call 5-10 minutes before the start time. They will allow participants into the class, if their names are on their daily class list.
  6. Registration for each class cuts off at midnight the day before, so be sure to register ahead of time.

Using Zoom:

  • Once you have registered, you will receive an email link to access the program.
  • When you join the class, be sure to identify yourself on zoom so the instructor can mark attendance accurately. Your name must match your registration name, not simply "iPad" or a phone number.
  • As you join the class, your computer audio will be muted and your screen will be turned off. Feel free to unmute at the end of class to say goodbye. It is up to you to decide if you activate your video option.
  • To get the best Zoom experience, we advise you to have your screen in SPEAKER view, which will allow your instructor's screen to be the largest on your screen. 
  • Be sure you have enough space around you to safely participate in this class. Wear appropriate clothing, have any equipment ready to go, and water handy.
  • Once the instructor starts the class, they will not be able to accept late arrivals, so sign in to zoom early.
  • You can use the chat box to chat to each other or to leave messages for your instructor.
  • Please do not share the link with anyone else.

Prior to starting any fitness program, we recommend that you consult with a family doctor for medical clearance.  We also recommend that you exercise at your own pace and intensity.  If you feel any pain in your chest, experience dizziness or shortness of breath, stop exercising immediately.  Ensure that your space is clear before starting any workout, wear comfortable clothing, and proper exercise footwear and ensure you stay hydrated.  We will not be responsible for any injury and/or property damage that may occur if you participate in our online workouts.

  • You will be required to use your Family PIN #and Personal Barcode # to book a time slot. All existing users/ members will have one already in our system. 

What if I forget my password or log in?

  • Select 'Login' (on the top right-hand corner of the screen)
  • Select 'Forgot Password?'
  • An email will be sent to you from 'helpdesk, quik-e-link (TBC-trying to adjust)' with your Family PIN # and Personal Barcode # for every member in your household.

 What if I am a new user?

  • Create an account by clicking "Create New Account" in the upper right corner of the screen.
  • You will receive a confirmation of account activation within one (1) business day by email.

 Once you have logged in:

  1. Click on the Programs tab under the search function
  2. Under "Browse for Courses" click on "Seniors Drop Ins', find the desired class, click on the Add button to put it into your basket.
  3. You may move back and forth between My Basket and the Activities screen using the tabs at the top of the page.
  4. When you have finished, proceed to the Checkout to make a payment.
  5. A receipt will be emailed to you once your payment has been successfully completed.
  6. IMPORTANT: All online registrations must be paid in full using a valid credit card (VISA, Mastercard and American Express).  Any outstanding balance on your account must also be paid at this time.  Any credits on your account will automatically be applied to the total balance due.

About the Newmarket Seniors' Meeting Place

The Seniors' Meeting Place is Currently is Closed

Enjoy an activity, take a class to learn a new skill, or just have a great time chatting with friends while eating a meal! Drop in any time to take a tour of the Newmarket Seniors' Meeting Place (NSMP), located at 474 Davis Drive. Meet our reception volunteers or pick up information on upcoming programs, bus trips, and special events. Coffee is available for $0.50 per cup and the newspaper is delivered daily for your enjoyment. 

Lunch days are Monday and Thursdays at Noon. The menu includes soup, sandwiches, and hot meals. The NSMP offers a variety of social, physical, educational, and health related programs and services in a safe and enjoyable environment.


Members of the Newmarket Seniors' Meeting Place (NSMP) enjoy reduced fees for NSMP programs, bus trips and special events, and a reduction on hall rentals. Membership fees are valid for one year from time or purchase or renewal. Membership is for those 55 years and over or under 55 who are married to a member who is over 55 years of age. Prices subject to change without notice. Participants are required to have a valid membership or purchase a $2 day pass to participate in all day time drop-in program activities. All participants are required to have a valid membership to participate in evening drop-in program activities. ​​
